Congrats on the new role at Cloudflare! If you’re moving to Austin for it, one of the first questions is where to live. Cloudflare’s Austin office is in East Austin, just across I-35 from downtown, which makes it one of the easier offices in the city to reach. The catch is that the neighborhoods within walking distance are also some of the most expensive in Austin.
Finding a room you can afford near Cloudflare can be harder than it sounds, and if you’re an intern, a lease short enough for an internship or co-op is even harder to find. We have lease terms that work for interns too. Below are our top options, starting with the closest, plus what to know if you’re here for an internship or co-op.
What does it cost to live near Cloudflare’s Austin office?
Living within walking distance of Cloudflare costs a lot more than the rest of Austin. In September 2026, one-bedroom apartments averaged about $2,841 a month downtown and about $1,866 in East Cesar Chavez, the neighborhood around the office. Across Austin, the average one-bedroom was about $1,427.
Because the office is so central, you don’t have to live next door to get a short commute. Every one of our homes is within about 22 minutes of Cloudflare without traffic, and rooms currently run $700 to $1,050 a month, with utilities set up for you and split evenly among housemates.
How far are our homes from Cloudflare?
These are door-to-door drive times, from each home’s front door to Cloudflare’s office at 405 Comal Street, closest first:
| Home | Area | Distance | Drive* | Open rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Caballo Blanco | East Austin | 8.6 mi | 14 min | — |
| Arborside | North Austin | 9.7 mi | 16 min | — |
| Mary Lewis | South Austin | 11.2 mi | 21 min | 1 · from $750 |
| Chapala | Manor | 15.6 mi | 22 min | 3 · from $800 |
*Typical drive without traffic; rush hour takes longer.
Drive times are for an empty road. Traffic near downtown and on I-35 adds time at rush hour, so give yourself extra time your first week. Built In lists Cloudflare’s Austin office as a hybrid workplace, so depending on your team, you may not make the drive every day.
What is Caballo Blanco like for Cloudflare employees?
Caballo Blanco is about 14 minutes and 8.6 miles from Cloudflare’s office. It’s in the Prado neighborhood in East Austin, on the same side of town as the office, and the airport is about 5 minutes away, which helps when you fly home for a visit. Downtown Austin is 15 to 20 minutes away for evenings and weekends.
Cloudflare residents who have lived at Caballo Blanco tell us the commute isn’t bad, since they drive in on State Highway 71, which they find less congested than the other routes into downtown.

The house has two stories, 4 bedrooms, and 3 bathrooms, and the common areas are already furnished. Residents share a community pool, a large backyard, and a game room. H-E-B and Walmart are about 10 minutes away.
Is Arborside in North Austin a good option for Cloudflare?
Arborside works well if you’d like to be closer to North Austin, including the Domain, which is about 12 minutes away. It’s about 16 minutes to Cloudflare’s office, and the 4-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom home is in the Pioneer Hill neighborhood, with a community pool and H-E-B and Walmart 5 to 10 minutes away. The common areas are furnished, and the bedrooms are unfurnished, so you can set up your room your way.

Why do Cloudflare interns like Chapala in Manor?
Chapala is the farthest of our homes from Cloudflare, about 22 minutes, but it’s been a favorite with Cloudflare interns. Residents tell us they like the open space. The 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom home is newer, with a big open living room and kitchen, and every bedroom there can be furnished, which helps when you’re arriving for an internship with just a suitcase.
It’s also easy to make friends there. Two Cloudflare interns who lived at Chapala at the same time hosted a dinner for other interns, a relaxed way to get to know people outside the office. Another Chapala resident moved out after a Cloudflare internship with a return offer and plans to come back to Austin.

Can I rent a room for a Cloudflare internship?
Yes. Cloudflare named Austin one of six hub offices for its 2026 intern program, which aims to hire as many as 1,111 interns, and its internships generally run 12 weeks. Our minimum lease is 3 months, which covers a 12-week internship. If yours is a little shorter, reach out and we’ll see what we can do. If your offer includes relocation assistance, a furnished room helps it go further, since you won’t need to buy or move furniture for a few months.
Why do Cloudflare interns and new hires rent a room instead of an apartment?
Many of our residents have been Cloudflare interns and full-time employees. The reasons we hear most:
- It costs less than an apartment. You pay for your room plus an even share of utilities, not a full one-bedroom’s rent, and near downtown that difference is large.
- It’s easier to make friends. Moving to a new city can be lonely at first, and a shared home gives you people to cook, work out, or explore Austin with.
- There’s less to set up. Common areas are furnished, utilities are coordinated for you, and shared spaces are cleaned monthly, so you can focus on your first weeks at work.
