Congrats on joining Samsung! If you’re moving to Austin for the job, one of the first things to sort out is where to live. Austin has rentals everywhere, from downtown high-rises to suburbs in every direction, but the best spot depends a lot on where you’ll be working. Samsung Austin Semiconductor is in northeast Austin, just off Parmer Lane, which is a different part of town from where most people start looking.
Finding a room to rent near Samsung can take some searching. Much of Austin’s rental housing is closer to the center of the city, and if you’re an intern, a lease short enough for a summer is even harder to find. We have lease terms that work for interns too. Below are our top options, starting with the closest, plus what to know if you’re here for an internship or headed to Samsung’s new Taylor campus.
Why does living close to Samsung Austin Semiconductor matter?
Samsung runs two chip fabs in northeast Austin, and together with its Taylor campus it accounted for about 4,500 direct jobs in 2025. That’s a lot of people heading to the same campus every day, and when your day starts early or ends late, a short drive home matters a lot.
Downtown Austin is about 20 minutes from the Samsung campus on an empty road, and longer at rush hour. Living nearby puts that time back into your day.
How far are our homes from Samsung Austin Semiconductor?
These are door-to-door drive times, from each home’s front door to Samsung’s campus at 12100 Samsung Boulevard, closest first:
| Home | Area | Distance | Drive* | Open rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arborside | North Austin | 3.9 mi | 9 min | — |
| Chapala | Manor | 7.2 mi | 12 min | 3 |
| Caballo Blanco | East Austin | 15.1 mi | 20 min | 1 |
| Mary Lewis | South Austin | 22.8 mi | 36 min | 1 |
*Typical drive without traffic; rush hour takes longer.
Drive times are for an empty road. Parmer Lane gets busy at rush hour, so leave a little extra time in your first week while you learn the timing.
What is Arborside like for Samsung employees?
Arborside is our closest home to Samsung Austin Semiconductor, about 9 minutes and 3.9 miles away. That’s less than half the drive from downtown. It’s in Pioneer Hill, a North Austin neighborhood in the same corner of the city as the Samsung campus.
Our Samsung residents at Arborside tell us that’s what they like most: they’re close to work during the week and still close enough to downtown to enjoy Austin on the weekends.
You’re not giving up the rest of Austin, either. H-E-B and Walmart are 5 to 10 minutes away, the Tech Ridge Center is about 10, and downtown is about 15 to 20 minutes when you want to go out on the weekend.

The house has two stories, 4 bedrooms, and 3.5 bathrooms. The common areas are furnished, and the bedrooms are unfurnished, so you can set up your room your way. Residents share a community pool, and there’s plenty of driveway parking.
Is Chapala in Manor a good option for Samsung?
Chapala is about 12 minutes from Samsung Austin Semiconductor, mostly along US 290 and Parmer Lane. A Samsung resident who lived at Chapala told us the short commute was one of their favorite things about the house. It’s a newer 5-bedroom, 4-bathroom house in Manor, walking distance from Manor’s historic downtown, and its bedrooms can be furnished, which helps if you’re arriving with a suitcase and not much else.

What if I’ll be working at Samsung’s Taylor campus?
Samsung’s Taylor campus opened its office building to hundreds of employees in late 2025, and Samsung expects the Taylor fab to be operational by the end of 2026. Taylor is about 44 minutes from downtown Austin without traffic.
Of our homes, Chapala is the closest to the Taylor campus, at about 28 minutes. If you’ll split time between the Austin and Taylor sites, Chapala sits between the two, about 12 minutes from one and 28 from the other.

Can I rent a room for a Samsung internship?
Yes. Samsung Austin Semiconductor’s college summer internship is a paid, 11-week program for students in technical fields, and its fab internship runs 10 weeks.
Our minimum lease is 3 months, which covers a full summer internship. If your internship is a bit shorter than that, reach out and we’ll see what we can do. If your offer includes relocation assistance, a furnished room is an easy way to make it go further, since you won’t need to buy or move furniture for a summer.
Why do Samsung interns and new hires rent a room instead of an apartment?
Many of our residents have worked at Samsung, mostly in full-time roles. The reasons we hear most:
- It costs less than an apartment. You pay for your room plus an even share of utilities, not a full one-bedroom’s rent.
- It’s easier to make friends. Moving to a new city can be lonely at first, and a shared home gives you people to cook, work out, or explore Austin with.
- There’s less to set up. Common areas are furnished, utilities are coordinated for you, and shared spaces are cleaned monthly, so you can focus on your first weeks at work.
